First off I should explain
what a HHO Fuel Cell is and what it does. HHO or Oxy-hydrogen
is a mixture of hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O) gases. This hho gas
is extracted from plain everyday h2o or water.
The HHO or Hydrogen
is for want of a better word the instrument or mechanism that
converts the h2o liquid to Oxy-hydrogen gas also called hho or
Gas Once produced the hho gas can be added to the petrol
or diesel fuel mix in most vehicle and stationary engines. Other
uses for this hydrogen gas include lights, home heating, oxy-hydrogen
blow pipe and cutting torches which will melt a fire brick which
is supposedly fire proof. Hot Stuff !
To convert water to
an electric current is applied to electrodes in a container of
distilled water. The current is usually DC (direct current) from
a 12 volt car battery which is enough to create bubbles of gas
which form on plates usually made of stainless steel. The gas
bubbles rise to the surface of the water like you see in an electric
jug as the water boils.
of applying current to electrodes immersed in liquids (electrolytes)
such as water has been around for centuries. Zink plating or electroplating
is one such process where electrical current is applied to electrodes
in a solution containing zinc. The zinc attaches itself to the
metal objects that are submersed in the electroplating electrolyte
solution. The reverse also happens where electrodes (plates) are
submersed in a chemical solution. The 12 volt car battery is the
prime example. A chemical reaction happens between the lead plates
and the acid electrolyte. This chemical reaction creates an electrical
current to run the vehicles electrical components. With any reaction
between the electrodes and the electrolytes a chemical reaction
occurs and there are usually by products created in the form of
gas. When charging a flat car battery the fumes can be flammable
and harmful to breathe as is the gas formed with electroplating.
The chemical reaction
created when applying current to the plates in a Hydrogen Fuel
Cell creates hho gas which is collected inside the cell and piped
into the car or truck engine. The hho or hydrogen gas which by
itself will not increase fuel mileage greatly, but with the aid
of an electronics unit which tells the cars computer to lean the
petrol or diesel mixture to compensate for the hho gas which is
fed directly into the intake manifold via the air intake.
To generate the maximum
a very small amount of either Sodium Hydroxide or Potassium Hydroxide
is added to the water in the Hydrogen cell also called a Hydrogen
Generator to enhance the production of hydrogen. There are three
types of stainless steel plates in a hho dry cell generator. Negative,
Neutral and Positive. The positive plates produce oxygen bubbles
and the Hydrogen bubbles form on the Negative plates. The Hydrogen
is the gas element that burns in the combustion chamber in the
engine but without oxygen the hydrogen would not burn.
Is it safe?
Yes, hydrogen is the lightest atom that we know of. It is lighter
than air so will very quickly disperse into thin air so to speak
where-as petrol fumes & compressed natural gas (cng) will
slowly disperse but Liquid petroleum gas (lpg) which is heaver
than air will descend to the lowest point in the location. The
hho gas is very low pressure and is only produced when the engine
is running. As soon as the key is turned off no more gas is produced.
Yes HHO Fuel is Eco-Friendly
What can be more eco-friendly than water or air. When the Oxy-hydrogen
fuel mix is burned in the engine and exits the exhaust it re-forms
as water vapor. This means less exhast pollution and you`ll save
on fuel too!
